A couple says they were only taking photos of their 1-year-old baby when a woman confronted them on a sidewalk. On Saturday afternoon, the parents had a photo shoot for their daughter's first birthday, on a stretch of land popular with Houston photographers. As they posed their baby with balloons and a blanket, a woman stopped her car and got out, barefoot and carrying a small dog. The family recorded cell phone video of the woman slapping the phone and balloons. The baby can be heard crying in the background. The parents involved in Saturday's incident say they have filed a police report. ABC13 Eyewitness News has reached out to the woman for her comment. The area along North Boulevard in the Broadacres community has been under dispute, as neighbors have posted signs to ban photo shoots throughout the community. The City of Houston confirmed that the esplanade and streets are in the public right-of-way. The homeowners association has said the property was deeded to the group in the 1920s. They are continuing to fight the city over the property rights. https://abc13.com/5143967/

The United States closed off northbound traffic for several hours at the busiest border crossing with Mexico to install new security barriers on Monday, a day after hundreds of Tijuana residents protested against the presence of thousands of Central American migrants. The U.S. also closed one of two pedestrian crossings at the San Ysidro crossing in a move apparently aimed at preventing any mass rush of migrants across the border. The installation of movable, wire-topped barriers threatens to complicate life for Mexicans using San Ysidro, where about 110,000 people enter the U.S. every day in 40,000 vehicles. Long lines backed up in Tijuana, where many people have to cross the border to work on the U.S. side. Such inconveniences prompted by the arrival of the migrant caravan may have played a role in Sunday's protests, when about 400 Tijuana residents waved Mexican flags, sang the Mexican national anthem and chanted "Out! Out!" referring to the migrant caravan that arrived in the border city last week. MORE ON THIS STORY: https://abc13.com/4717731/

A 15-year-old on a 4-wheeler is in custody after leading authorities on a chase on the Eastex Freeway Thursday morning. Police tell us it all started when an officer noticed the teen driving down a street and they tried to pull him over. They then chased him to Homestead, but that's where they lost him. Harris County sheriff's deputies caught up with him on Lauder Road and then went over to the freeway in the northbound lanes, where the teen was spotted on Houston Transtar cameras traveling past FM 1960 and then Townsen. When a young mountain lion clamped its jaws onto Travis Kauffman's wrist and clawed at his face, he screamed a "barbarian yell," jammed his foot onto the animal's neck and held it there until the cat quit thrashing and died. After a couple of minutes, Kauffmann recalled Thursday, "it finally stopped moving and then the jaws opened and I was able to kind of scramble back up the hill and get the heck out of Dodge." Through it all, the 31-year-old trail runner said, the cat remained eerily silent. It was the first time Kauffman publicly recounted the Feb. 4 ordeal that left him with 28 stitches and a reputation for toughness and bravery that overshadows his wiry frame. https://abc13.com/5140146/

George H.W. Bush, who shaped history as 41st president and patriarch of a family that occupied the White House for a dozen years, was laid to rest Thursday in College Station, alongside wife Barbara and daughter Robin. Before he is taken to his final resting place, an invite-only funeral service with about 1,200 guests was held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston. Painted to resemble Air Force One, Union Pacific railroad honored president Bush with Bush 4141 back in 2005. Unlike other engines on the rails, Bush 4141 is the only one to have ever been driven by its namesake and a former U.S. President. A tiger kept in an enclosure within a vacant home in southeast Houston had to be tranquilize before a wrecker pulled the animal away. ABC13 Eyewitness News was the first to learn Monday of the illegally housed animal on Avenue J just east of the East 610 Loop. Jason Alderete, of Houston police, told ABC13 that the department responded to a call to 311 from a concerned citizen who was at the home to smoke marijuana. "(We) asked to whether they were under the effects of the drugs or they actually saw a tiger," said Alderete. "They saw a tiger in this building." He added that the animal appeared to have been fed over time since there were empty meat packages discarded at the home. A wrecker was called to pull the tiger still in the cage. The animal was sedated with a tranquilized dart and loaded on a heavy-duty vehicle. https://abc13.com/5132909/

It's happening for the third time in just weeks! Drivers Friday morning were forced to make quick moves to avoid a lost load on 610 near Kirby. A giant industrial spool was rolling through lanes of moving traffic. Authorities say the driver of an 18-wheeler noticed that the load was falling off and immediately pulled over. Katy students on a field trip recorded video of the huge spool rolling down the highway, with vehicles narrowly missing it. Crews responded and cleared the huge item off the road. Officials in the Mexican border city of Tijuana said they have arrested 34 members of the caravan of Central American migrants for minor offenses and turned them over for deportation. A Tijuana city statement late Monday said the 34 - apparently all men - were arrested for drug possession, public intoxication, disturbing the peace and resisting police, and added they would be deported to their home countries. The main caravan has between 4,000 and 6,000 participants, so those arrested represent less than 1 percent of the total. Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastelum has made a point of saying the city is not comfortable with the caravan that began arriving last week, and he compared the Central American group unfavorably with about 3,000 Haitians who ended up in this city bordering San Diego on a failed bid to reach the United States last year. 30 Minute Houston Police chase ends when cops shoot the wrong way driver. Direct link: http://abc13.com/898413/ From 8/2/15: Police pursued the man for about 30 minutes before the chase came to an end with a deadly confrontation in the 9000 block of Beechnut near the Beltway. Police say he was intentionally hitting other drivers and when they tried to pull him over, he tried to ram their patrol cars. Officers finally used their patrol cars to box him in a parking lot on Beechnut. He started ramming the cruisers. Two officers fired at his truck. He managed to drive through patrol cars and cross a median before crashing into a sign near a Shell station. HPD spokesman Victor Senties said, "The officers tell us when they gave him the verbal commands and approached he had a funny look in his eyes, almost like he was in a trance. Not entirely there, just completely ignoring commands and had a sort of wild look in his eyes." Police approached the truck and realized the driver had been shot. Police say the man was given a tourniquet at the scene and was then taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect was identified as 63-year-old Virgil Lee Reynolds. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel. Follow us for more great content!
