Collider Presents another chapter of our mock-u-series focusing on what happens "after the snap" in Avengers: Infinity War. After Thanos’ snap, the world became a darker place. Not just because of the death, the destruction and the massive loss of life… it was because the people left behind were actually a bunch of jerks. While Thanos was thought to be cleansing the universe and bringing balance: in reality, he made it worse, and we’re left to suffer. Like, really, really, suffer - because all these people are happy they were spared to continue on with their terrible behavior. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord and Chris Miller Interview Get ready for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Not only is the film a fantastic celebration of Spider-Man and what it means to wear the mask, but it also offers up a hilarious and heartfelt story of a teenager trying to find his place and embrace what makes him special. And then, on top of all that, the film also marks a major breakthrough for animation. You know all that talk about the movie feeling like a comic book? It's true! In fact, the team behind the film takes that technique above and beyond, with every single frame of the movie beautifully designed with unprecedented style and purpose. In case you couldn't tell, I love the movie, so getting the opportunity to sit down with producer Chris Miller and write-producer Phil Lord was a real treat. I suspect no amount of time would be good enough to cover the entirety of this animation process, but we did get the chance to talk about the new tools developed to bring Into the Spider-Verse to screen, assembling the trio of directors, and who Lord and Miller would name the "unsung heroes" of the production. You can hear about all of that in this video interview and if you're looking for even more on the making of the film, be sure to keep an eye out for cast interviews as well as the full Q&A from our recent screening at the ArcLight Cinemas Hollywood with Lord, Miller and directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters nationwide on December 14th. WARNING: Contains spoilers for the 'Halloween' franchise and includes gory imagery, viewer discretion advised! Does NOT include any spoilers from Halloween (2018) Halloween comes out this weekend and fans of the original John Carpenter masterpiece will see the return of Jamie Lee Curtis to the iconic role of Laurie Strode…and Michael Myers. Carpenter also returns to the franchise he made famous to executive produce this film along with Blumhouse founder Jason Blum. David Gordon Green directs this “sequel” of sorts and co-wrote the film as well with Danny McBride. The film’s synopsis states Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago. The franchise has seen numerous installments over the years in an attempt to recapture the success and the vibe of the original film. There was even an ill-fated reboot and sequel by Rob Zombie. Needless to say, Michael Myers has had a high death toll over the years so in honor of the release of Halloween, noted Horror movie enthusiast Mark Reilly counts down the Top 10 Kills in the Halloween franchise. No installment is off limits and the more gruesome and inventive, the better. Watch and see if your favorite deaths are included here and if they aren’t let us know in the COMMENTS section below. Daredevil Season 3 Interview with Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll and Wilson Bethel. With Marvel’s Daredevil season 3 now streaming on Netflix, I recently got to sit down with Charlie Cox, Wilson Bethel and Deborah Ann Woll to talk about the newest season. During the interview, the cast talked about playing characters that are so well written and three dimensional, what it was like working with new showrunner Erik Oleson, how this season deals with Karen Page’s backstory, what it was like working with Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin, and more. Since I know how careful everyone is about spoilers, all you need to know about Daredevil season 3 is Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) has been missing for months. After the long hiatus, he returns a broken man questioning his future. When Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, he’s forced to choose if he should embrace his destiny as a hero or continue hiding from his friends and the world. Daredevil also stars Jay Ali, Joanne Whalley, Elden Henson, Peter McRobbie and Ayelet Zurer. Mortal Engines: Philippa Boyens Interview Philippa Boyens is no stranger to adapting books to film and creating big screen fantasy spectacles thanks to the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, and now she's putting that expertise to use again with the acclaimed novel Mortal Engines. Along with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, Boyens penned the script about the state of the world hundreds of years after civilization is destroyed. Now many opt to live on "traction cities," giant moving cities, with one of the biggest of them all, London, threatening to gobble up every other smaller city and town in its path, consuming all of their resources. There's a lot to cover in the source material and a significant amount of world-building required to sell traction cities and this way of life on screen, so I was thrilled to get the chance to sit down with Boyens and dive into the adaptation process, why they chose to cut or alter certain parts of the original story, and to get her thoughts on releasing an epic adventure film that also has some especially timely themes and ideas. Mortal Engines hits theaters nationwide on December 14th. Post a photo of you watching this video and tag @jeopardy with the hashtag #JoshMacuga4Jeopardy to help spread the word! Collider's own Josh Macuga is a life-long fan of the classic game show "Jeopardy!" and has dreamed of the chance to host the show in the future. When news broke earlier this year that Alex Trebek was considering retirement in coming years, Josh leapt into action and a social media campaign was born. In an effort to showcase Josh's hosting ability and his love of the game, Collider helped Josh create an entire mock version of the show, complete with buzzers, a question board, and contestants. Actress Janina Gavankar (True Blood, Star Wars: Battlefront II), Comedian Freddy Lockhart (Funny You Should Ask, FrankTV), and Josh's mom Deborah Macuga competed in the game and speak about why Josh Macuga would be the perfect fit as the next Jeopardy! host. On today’s Collider Mailbag (December 16, 2018), Perri Nemiroff and Jeff Sneider answer the following questions from the Collider fans: 1. In honor of the new Mary Poppins release, what movie child or children would be the most difficult to nanny for? 2. Why do the Oscars matter? Or better yet, who do they matter to? 3. With Aquaman not being an overwhelming success and mixed reviews for Mary Poppins, do you think 2018 has actually been quite a disappointing year for films? Or do we now expect too much? 4. Having now seen at least three of the highest profile December 19 new releases, can Perri and/or Jeff provide updated box office insight/predictions for that big weekend? 5. In a 2019 release schedule packed with sequels, remakes, prequels, reboots and requels based on IP, which non-IP film are you most looking forward to next year? New 'Venom' Clips Show Off Tom Hardy's Range and a Conflicted Eddie Brock Ahead of Sony's release of Venom, the studio's next film in their marvelous Spider-Man-centric cinematic universe, some new clips have made their way online to show off Tom Hardy's range as both the mild-mannered journalist Eddie Brock and the brain-eating rage-monster that is the alien symbiote known as Venom. In these four clips, some of which you might have seen before, Brock interviews a rich and powerful business magnate whose motives are not quite as philanthropic as they might seem; Eddie also gets to have a heart to heart with his ex-wife (or at least she is in the comics). But don't worry, there's plenty of Venom to go around as the title terror takes on a group of thugs who come in search of Eddie, as well as a S.W.A.T. team who tries to take him down. Zombieland and Gangster Squad filmmaker Ruben Fleischer directs, with Riz Ahmed alongside Hardy’s antihero playing the antagonist Dr. Carlton Drake while Michelle Williams fills the role of Anne Weying. Ron Cephas Jones, Jenny Slate and Woody Harrelson also star. One (or more) of those co-stars might just end up having a bigger part to play than you might expect. Look for Venom to invade theaters starting October 5th. Robin Hood Cast Plays Ice Breakers: Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan and Ben Mendelsohn With director Otto Bathurst’s (Peaky Blinders) Robin Hood opening in theaters this week, I recently sat down with Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan, and Ben Mendelsohn to talk about the retelling of the classic story. While I’ll have extended interviews with the cast running all week, to start off our coverage, I’ve got all of them playing “Ice Breakers.” If you’ve never seen it, it’s a fun game that includes questions like which TV show you would want to guest star on, what’s your favorite sci-fi/fantasy movie, which film scared you as a kid, what you collect, if you own any movie/TV show props, what’s your phone's background photo, and more. I’ve found the game always leads to learning some fun stuff about the people we interview and this one was no different. For example, did you know Jamie Dornan loves The Golden Girls? Or how Jamie Foxx now appreciates The Exorcist in a new way as he got older? Or what Ben Mendelsohn thinks is the best opening to any film? Bohemian Rhapsody: Rami Malek and Cast on Favorite Queen Songs With director Bryan Singer’s Bohemian Rhapsody set to open in theaters November 2nd, I recently got to attend an early press day for the film where 20th Century Fox unveiled around thirty-five minutes of footage to a number of reporters. While it’s too early to judge the finished film based on seeing a quarter of the movie, I’ll say that while all the performances were extremely good, I have to single out one person: Rami Malek. Based on what I saw, Malek has truly transformed himself into Freddie Mercury, and I was absolutely mesmerized by what I saw on screen. For fans of his work on Mr. Robot, this is such a completely different performance that it’s hard to believe it’s the same person. I cannot wait to see the finished film. Shortly after seeing the footage, I got to sit down with Malek, Gwilym Lee (Brian May), Joseph Mazzello (John Deacon) and Lucy Boynton (Mary Austin). Since I only had a few minutes with the four of them, I decided to ask questions to the group at large, including what was their favorite Queen song, did it change due to making the movie, and how did they each prepare to play their roles. It's always a privilege and treat to get to sit down with the talent behind a fantastic film, but it's an extra special experience when those individuals worked on one of your favorite films of the year and that's the case with this particular interview. While in Toronto for A Star Is Born's World Premiere, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga took the time to sit down and talk to me about how their past experiences influenced their work on this film and the individuals in their lives who have always been there to support them, just like Ally and Jackson do for each other in the movie. A Star Is Born hits theaters on October 5th. Michael Peña on Narcos: Mexico, Dora the Explorer and the Fantasy Island Movie With Narcos: Mexico now streaming on Netflix, I recently sat down with Michael Peña for an exclusive interview about playing DEA agent Kiki Camarena. During the wide-ranging conversation, he talked about what it was like filming on location, how familiar he was with the series before getting involved, what it was like playing someone so morally centered, how many scripts he had before filming began, and more. In addition, Peña talked about playing the dad in the Dora the Explorer movie and the status of the Fantasy Island movie. Unlike the past three seasons of Narcos, the new season, Narcos: Mexico, is essentially a reboot of the show, since the setting has moved from Columbia and features an all-new cast. If you’ve only heard the great buzz on the show and want to give it a chance, you can jump right in with Mexico. Trust me, the new season is fantastic. Exclusive: The New Mutants Could Be R-Rated; Reshoots Haven't Happened Yet The New Mutants was supposed to open this past April before it got kicked to February 2019 and then all the way back to August 2019. Back in March, we reported that the film was undergoing reshoots to make the film straight horror, and that we heard that a sizeable percentage of the movie is being reshot. However, when Steve Weintraub spoke to producer Simon Kinberg yesterday for Dark Phoenix, Kinberg revealed that those reshoots are still to come. As for the direction those reshoots will take the movie in terms of rating, that’s still being decided. According to Kinberg, there’s no mandate on what the rating must be, and they’re waiting to see what kind of film director Josh Boone delivers. Bohemian Rhapsody Cast Interview - Rami Malek, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, and Joseph Mazzello Last week in London, I attended the world premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody at Wembley Arena. Unlike most premiere venues, which are lucky to hold a thousand people, Wembley Arena is a massive building that normally hosts concerts and other live events. So for the world premiere of the Queen movie, 20th Century Fox filled the arena up with around seven thousand people, and during the film's big moments it truly became an interactive experience. When Queen is shown in the studio coming up with the beginning of “We Will Rock You,” the crowd was clapping and stomping along with the band. Then, during the Live Aid portion of the film, when the band is singing Radio Ga Ga, the crowd clapped along. It was like being at a Queen concert, and an experience I’ll never forget. The day before the world premiere, I was able to talk with cast members Rami Malek, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, and Joseph Mazzello. They revealed what it was like filming the Live Aid concert, what was cut out of the finished film, and what Queen songs they wish could have made the movie. Finally, while the entire cast was great in Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami Malek’s performance was on another level. No matter what review you read or who you talk to, everyone is raving about his amazing performance as Freddie Mercury. His work alone is reason to see the movie. Scripted by Anthony McCarten (Darkest Hour), Bohemian Rhapsody follows the band Queen from their early days playing pubs to becoming one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. The film also stars Lucy Boynton, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech, and Aaron McCusker. Hans Zimmer on Widows, Dark Phoenix and Wonder Woman 1984 One of the many fantastic films to world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was Widows. Directed by Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave,Shame) and co-written by McQueen and Gillian Flynn, the film is about four women that must execute a heist in order to pay off the debt their deceased husbands incurred. Furthermore, the women have to pull off the heist while both the law and criminals are bearing down around them. Loaded with fantastic performances, Sean Bobbitt’s great cinematography, an exciting score by Hans Zimmer, and a script full of complex characters, Widows is one of those special movies where everything just works. Trust me, you want to see this movie when it opens in theaters November 16th. Widows stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez,Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Garret Dillahunt, Carrie Coon, Jacki Weaver, Jon Bernthal, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Robert Duvall and Liam Neeson. Shortly after seeing the film, I got to sit down with Hans Zimmer at the Collider studio at TIFF to talk about the film. During the wide-ranging interview he talked about how he first started working with Steve McQueen, what makes him an extraordinary director, how he worked on the Widows television series in the 80s before he was a composer, how McQueen and his team make films that feel like music, what was the toughest part of the doing the score, and a lot more. In addition, he talked about what it was like going around the world on tour, which city featured his "Spinal Tap moment," why he decided to come back to superhero movies for Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix after saying he was done with the genre, and why he decided to score Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman sequel. Venom: Tom Hardy on the Jekyll and Hyde Dynamic Between Eddie Brock and Venom Symbiote With director Ruben Fleischer’s Venom movie hitting theaters October 5th, I sat down with Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed to talk about the film. During the interview, Hardy talked about the Jekyll and Hyde dynamic between Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote, why he wanted to play the role, how they constructed a scene where Tom Hardy jumps into a lobster tank, how they both like to work on set, and Ahmed talks about what it’s been like landing more high profile roles. Venom is about disgraced reporter Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) who comes into contact with an alien symbiote that turns him into the creature known as “Venom”. The film also stars Riz Ahmed as Dr. Carlton Drake, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Jenny Slate as a scientist working for Drake, and Reid Scott as a doctor trying to help Brock. Neil Armstrong’s Sons on ‘First Man’ and Ryan Gosling’s Performance One of the best films of 2018 is First Man. Directed by Oscar-winning Whiplash and La La Land filmmaker Damien Chazelle, the film is based on a book by James R. Hansen and chronicles the amazing behind-the-scenes story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong between the years of 1961 and 1969. Ryan Gosling fills the role of Armstrong in the film, with Emmy-winning The Crown actress Claire Foy playing Armstrong’s wife Janet. The film also stars Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, Lukas Haas, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll, and Pablo Schreiber. First Man was written by Oscar-winning Spotlight and The Post co-writer Josh Singer and produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen alongside Chazelle and Gosling. While we’ve all seen a number of movie and TV projects about the early days of NASA and the space race, Chazelle opens the door to a new way of looking at the subject matter with the way he frames the events on screen. Trust me, even though I knew which missions were successful I was on the edge of my seat as I watched the astronauts attempt to do the impossible. I cannot recommend this movie enough and I’m extremely confident it will be up for all the big awards at the upcoming Oscars. Last week, I got to visit Kennedy Space Center in Florida to conduct interviews for the film. In today’s installment, Mark and Rick Armstrong (Neil Armstrong’s two sons) talk about what it was like seeing the film for the first time, Ryan Gosling’s performance, and a key scene in the film where they talked to their parents before their father went to the moon. Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker will be back in Episode 9 but in what form? Of course he’s going to be a Force Ghost but are there other clues in the sequel trilogy that could hint at something more? Could Luke Skywalker return to the living in Episode IX? If you’re clicking and wondering and even worrying or maybe even upset than you might be one of the many people unhappy with the fact that Luke Skywalker is no longer among the living in the Star Wars UnIverse. As seen at the end of The Last Jedi, Luke’s Force Projection saved the resistance giving the galaxy the spark of hope it needed. The legend of Luke Skywalker united a galaxy... but divided the fans. So what if I told you there was a way to make Luke a living being again and show him kicking ass as a Jedi Master? Mark Reilly from Jedi Council’s #RuleOfTwo comes to Collider Quick to offer up some new speculation about how and why Luke Skywalker could return to living without any messy retconning. It’s been set up in The Force Awakens and even The Last Jedi. Luke Skywalker can return, and in a very simple way, shape and form. Now the real question, is JJ Abrams listening? Let us know what you think of the idea of Luke Skywalker returning in Episode IX. Sebastian Stan on Stan Lee and Avengers 4 It's impossible to quantify the exact impact Stan Lee—who died on Monday at 95—had on pop culture, but a good place to start is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a billion-dollar big-screen empire built on the backs of comic book characters created by Lee along with artists and writers like Jack Kirby, Joe Simon, and Steve Ditko. After portraying Bucky Barnes and his one-armed alter-ego The Winter Soldier across four films, Sebastian Stan has played an integral role in fleshing out the MCU. Collider's own Steve Weintraub happened to be interviewing Stan for Karyn Kusama's Destroyer on the morning of Lee's death, and the actor shared a few thoughts on Marvel's most jovial architect. "I only met him a few times," Stan said. "I never got a full one-on-one with him but he was always like, 'Remember, Bucky’s one of the good ones. Bucky’s a good guy.'" The actor also noted the ways Lee's death put the artists he most admires into perspective: "I’m a little knocked out by this news. Literally, as I was coming here that was the first thing I saw. There’s a few people that are close to my heart, like actors and directors and people who I’ve always been inspired by who are getting up there, and that’s the fear I always have. That you’re going to get this headline eventually. But I was just fortunate to meet him. I feel like I’m just grateful that he was around to see what Marvel was able to do, especially in the last ten years. I feel like he always…he had the cameos. I think he was happy with the turnout." The MCU is also headed for what amounts to a season finale with next year's still-untitled Avengers 4, the second half of the showdown with the Mad Titan Thanos that the Russo Brothers' started in Avengers: Infinity War. The two films were largely shot simultaneously, a massive undertaking that resulted in Stan feeling unsure that Bucky Barnes even appears in the finale. Bad Times at the El Royale puts the spotlight on seven strangers who all wind up at the El Royale in Lake Tahoe. Sure the hotel isn't as much of a hot spot as it once was, but it's a decent place to crash for the night, right? Not so fast. This is a hotel with some nefarious activities and the tendency to draw in some dubious and even dangerous individuals. Amongst the bunch we get Dakota Johnson, Cailee Spaeny and Jon Hamm. Johnson and Spaeny play sisters who are in the midst of a bit of a disagreement (and that's putting it lightly) while Hamm steps in as a vacuum salesman named Laramie Seymour Sullivan who really wants to stay in that honeymoon suite. That's as much plot as you're getting out of me because Bad Times at the El Royale thrives on that air of mystery. During my conversation with Johnson, Spaeny and Hamm we discuss the additional details they needed from writer-director Drew Goddard to really understand their characters, the value of this being a true passion project for the director and, as this headline promises, Chris Hemsworth's abs. Bad Times at the El Royale hits theaters nationwide on October 12th. Dark Phoenix Reshoots Explained by Director Simon Kinberg 20th Century Fox finally unveiled the new X-Men film Dark Phoenix last week by releasing the film’s first trailer, which teased a dramatic change of pace for the franchise. Indeed, Dark Phoenix is a shift in a lot of ways. Bryan Singer returned to spearhead X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, but after the 80s-set Apocalypse, longtime X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg took it upon himself to craft a very different kind of X-Men film, one that would finally adapt the fan-favorite Dark Phoenix storyline the right way. Moreover, Kinberg opted to make the film his directorial debut. Kinberg’s script was strong enough to woo back the entire cast, and recently Collider’s own Steve Weintraub got to sit down with Kinberg and producer Hutch Parker for an exclusive interview about the film while they’re hard at work editing the movie. During the course of their conversation, Kinberg touched on the reshoots that recently took place for Dark Phoenix, and the abrupt release date change that was announced one day after the trailer was unveiled. Indeed, Dark Phoenix was originally set to hit theaters next February, but Fox instead decided to push the film to June 2019 as part of a series of release date shuffles for various films (Dark Phoenix ended up taking over Gambit’s old release date, as that film was moved to 2020). Shazam! debuted exclusive footage at Brazil's Comic-Con Experience 2018 (CCXP), and Collider's very own Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub was in attendance. Watch as he breaks down and reviews the clips with Collider Live host Kristian Harloff. The film stars Zachary Levi as the supercharged adult version of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who battles the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong). With the lighthearted DC superhero movie hitting theaters April 5, 2019, Warner Bros pulled out the stops with this exclusive footage reveal in Brazil. Here’s the official synopsis for Shazam!: We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong). First Man directed by Damien Chazelle stars Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy, Corey Stoll, Pablo Schreiber and Kyle Chandler comes out on October 12, 2018. The film from Universal Pictures is an exploration of Neil Armstrong’s journey to be the first man to walk on the moon. It’s Chazelle’s follow up to his Oscar nominated film La La Land which won the Best Picture Oscar….for about 30 seconds. First Man is describd as the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history. Scott Mantz got to see the film at TIFF in a special IMAX screening of the film and he is here with his review. He breaks down the direction, acting, scope, cinematography, depth and plotlines in the movie. He lets you know if this is film has earned its early buzz and could possible earn Chazelle another Best Picture nomination and maybe a Best Actor and Best Actress nomination for Goslin and Claire Foy respectively. Welcome to Episode 26 of The Reilly Roundtable! This week is a very special episode as Reilly welcomes in John Rocha to talk about his opinion on the latest DC movie Aquaman and how in just one tweet, a world of hate opened up to him and his opinion. This opens up a very personal conversation for the two as they discuss the in’s and out’s of social media while discussing how it all happened. But instead of defending, we look to understand through discussion, debate and self reflection. Remember to like and share this episode and give it the ole’ five star rating.
