Dedicated to Jit Shukla who requested this video. Kanakadhara Stotram One day in the sacred Rishi tradition Bhagvadpada Sri Adi Sankarachrya went to one old woman's house for alms (biksha). She was so poor, she was not having a proper dress and anything worth the name to give as biksha. So with the entrance door of her house slightly ajar, she reached out swamiji with her hand stretched and dropped one amlaka fruit (which was the only thing available in her house) into the hands of Sri Sankaracharya. Sri Sankaracharya was deeply touched at the plight and haplessness of the woman - So he chanted Kanakadharaa stotram and prayed Goddess Lakshmi to extend Her Grace on the woman. The giver of wealth Goddess Lakshmi showered as rain - Golden Amlaka fruits in the house of the old woman. This Stotram has been acclaimed as Kanaka Dharaa Stavam - and it is sure to bless all devotees who extol Sri Devi with all unflinching devotion. http://www.telugubhakti.com/telugupages/Devi/Lakshmi/Kanakadharaintro.htm Translation: http://mailerindia.com/slokas/mantras/index.php?kanagadara Music by the Bombay Sisters Pics courtesty of http://lordvishnu0.tripod.com

Kanakadhara Stotram is a hymn. It is called Kanakadhara because when Adi Sankara recited it, Goddess Lakshmi created a shower of golden fruit. Sankara took Sanyasa (renunciation) at the age of eight. Once he went out for begging alms for lunch where he reached a very poor Brahmin lady's house. She had nothing in the house until she found a gooseberry fruit and without any hesitation she offered him. He was moved after seeing the plight of the woman and sang 21 hymns praising Goddess Lakshmi. Goddess Lakskmi appreared in front of him and blessed the poor Brahmin lady with goose berries made of pure gold. The hymn contains a description of the beauty, personality, power and graciousness of Goddess Lakshmi. Please watch in HD for clear text and good quality ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Śrī Kanakadhārā stotram is one of the earliest compositions of the preeminent 8th century philosopher saint Śrī Ādi Śaṅkarācarya addressed to Goddess Lakṣmī, the goddess of wealth, prosperity and fortune. Sri Shankaracharya invoking the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi through Kanakadhara stotram This stotra was composed by the great saint at a tender age. According to tradition, during the early boyhood of the great seer, as with tradition and customs, it was customary for young Brahmacārī boys to begging for alms. During one such rounds, the seer reached a house of a poor Brahmin lady. When he called out for alms, the Brahmin ladys heart melted in sorrow, since she had nothing but a gooseberry (Āmalaka) to offer. The Brahmin lady offered the only gooseberry she had at home to the young celibate. Seeing the devotion and earnestness and taking pity of the poor lady, the great seer composed this stotra extempore, extolling Goddess Lakṣmī and addressed as a prayer to bestow her bountiful blessings. It is said that upon the composition of this stotra, Goddess Lakṣmī appeared and showered her grace upon the poor Brahmin lady. To this day, the descendants of the Brahmin lady live at the very place which was graced by Śrī Śaṅkara and Goddess Lakṣmī; at Kalady. The family is known by the name of Swarnattu Mana, true to its name, meaning house of gold. ************************************* Special thanks to jontypandey (http://www.youtube.com/user/jontypandey) for sharing this beautiful Stotram ************************************* Tags: Sacred Chants Kanada Dhara Sthotram Laxmi Durga Kaali Lakshmi Adi Shankar Shankaracharya Sanskrit Hymn song bhajan melodious devotional spiritual hinduism indian india SHRAVAN MANYAM kanakadhara Stotram Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DivineTemplesDotCom/ For authentic spiritual and religious products visit https://www.divinetemples.com/

Goddess Mahalakshmi's grace : Listening to Sankaracharya's beautiful stotra and his arguement that the poor women must be blessed for her good deed in this birth ( offering of little amla fruit ), Mahalakshmi was moved. Friends, here comes the greatness of this Goddess. She really is for devotion and purity of heart. If we always involve in good deeds , always chanting Gods name, we will surely be blessed by Mahalakshmi. As Sanakaracharya was singing Kanagadhara stotram, Mahalakshmi showered Golden amla fruit like rain infront of the poor womens hut. Imagine, rain of golden fruit showering from sky . How beautiful is this story friends . How beautiful is the devotion of the poor lady and how great is the saint Adi Sankaraya who sang in praise of Mahalakshmi and beyond all this How graceful is this Goddess Mahalakshmi. Adi Sankaya has sung this "Kanakadhara stotra" for welfare of everyone who is suffering their past karma and suffering in poverty.

Adi Shankara became a monk at a very young age. The story goes that one day, he went begging for his food as was the custom, and arrived at the hut of a very poor Brahmin woman. The woman had no food at home except an Amla fruit (gooseberry), and she gave this to Adi Shankara. He was so overwhelmed by her generosity and so moved by her poverty that he extemporaneously composed and sang the Kanakadhara Stotram in front of the woman's hut. This prayer instantly invoked the Goddess Mahalakshmi, who rained down a shower of gold for the woman. Each piece of gold was shaped like a gooseberry. Reciting this prayer is said to eliminate poverty, but I don't think it's that simple. I think the key factor in this miracle was the kindness of the woman-- she didn't have the heart to send away a hungry little boy emptyhanded, so she gave him the only food she had. Such a simple thing to do, but how many of us could do it? Apparently, the woman's descendants still live in the place where this miracle took place, in the town of Kaladi, Kerala. Kaladi is also Adi Shankara's birthplace. Album: Divine Chants of Mahalakshmi. Singer: Uma Mohan.

SUNG BY: SRI. KAVALAM SRIKUMAR ( KANAKADHAARA MANTRA IS IMPLIED IN THIS STOTRA. ITS A PROVEN STOTRA WHICH HEPLPS YOU TO EXCELL IN YOUR CREATIVITY & MATERIAL WEALTH ) The hymn was written in the 8th century by Adi Sankara. Sankara took Sanyasa (renunciation) at the age of eight. One day, as a young boy, he was begging for alms to prepare his lunch and he went to the house of a very poor Brahmin lady to beg. The lady was upset because there was nothing edible in the house. After searching the house once again she found one amla (Amalak, gooseberry) fruit. She hesitantly offered it to Sankara. He was moved after seeing the plight of the woman and sang 21 hymns praising Goddess Lakshmi. The Goddess was so pleased that she appeared before him and asked him why he has remembered her. He asked the Goddess to grant riches to the poor woman. The Goddess first refused to do so because the lady had not done any work for charity in her previous birth and it is not possible to change one's fate. Sankara told the Goddess that she is the only one who is capable of changing the fate of someone by erasing or changing the writings of the future made by Lord Brahma on the forehead of the person. The Goddess was so pleased that she instantly showered the Brahman lady's house with goose berries made of pure gold. The 21 stanzas became famous and are read by all devout Hindus. The hymn contains a description of the beauty, personality, power and graciousness of Goddess Lakshmi. Sankara does not distinguish between the three Goddesses of Hinduism. For him Lakshmi, Parvati and Saraswati are the same. A brief summary of each of the stanzas is given below. 1.Goddess Lakshmi is attracted towards the supreme God Hari (Vishnu) like black bees being attracted to the un-opened buds of a Tamala (cinnamomum) tree. 2.She is born to the ocean of milk and her glances return to the lotus-like face of Lord Krishna like honey bees towards the not yet opened pretty blue lotus buds. 3.Let her who is the wife of Him, who sleeps on the snake, shower me with wealth. 4.Let her garland of glances that protect Lord Vishnu and give him great strength, fall on me also. 5.She is like a streak of lightning in the black-dark cloud (the chest of Lord Krishna). 6.Cupid the God of love could reach Lord Vishnu only through Her kind glances. 7.She is capable of making one as King of Devas in this world. Her side glance for a moment, enabled Lord Indra to regain his kingdom. 8.She grant’s heaven to all her devotees just through a compassionate glance. Let her sparkling eyes which are like the fully opened lotus fall on me. Grant me all my wishes. 9.O Goddess please show your mercy which is like wind, and shower the rain of wealth on this parched land. 10.She is the Goddess of knowledge, She is the darling of Lord Vishnu, She is the power that causes death at the time of deluge and She is the wife of Him who has the crescent on his head (Lord Siva ) and she does the creation, upkeep and destruction at various times. 11.O Goddess You are the embodiment of the Vedas, Rathi (wife of the God of Love), Shakti(Goddess of strength) and Lakshmi, the Goddess of Plenty. 12.She is as pretty as a lotus in full bloom and she is born from the ocean of milk, sister of nectar and the moon. 13.She sits on the golden lotus, and She is the ruler of the universe, who showers mercy on Devas and She is the wife of him who has the bow called Saranga(Lord Vishnu). 14.She is the daughter of Rishi Bhrigu. She is the wife of the son of Nanda(Lord Krishna) 15.She has lotus like eyes, she is the earth and also the mother of the earth, worshipped by Devas and she is the consort of the son of Nanda (Lord Krishna). 16.She is the giver of wealth, giver of pleasure to all senses and also giver of the right to rule kingdoms. 17.One who is blessed by her side glances is blessed with wealth and prosperity. My salutations to the queen of the heart of Lord Vishnu. 18.She is the one who sits on the lotus, has a lotus in her hand, who is dressed in dazzling white clothes and one who wears garlands of gold and silver and sandal paste on her body. 19.Eight elephants from all the directions pour out holy water of the Ganga (which flows in heaven), for her holy, purifying bath. 20.She is the lotus, consort of Lord with lotus-eyes. O goddesses please turn your glances filled with mercy towards me who is the poorest of the poor. 21.One who recites these prayers daily on her who is the personification of Vedas and who is the mother of three worlds, who is also called as Rama, will be blessed with good and graceful qualities and great fortunes.

Adi Sankaracharya was born in Kaladi, in Kerala in 8th century when Hinduism had few problems. The Shiva worshippers , vishnu worshippers, ganesha worshippers etc. have misunderstandings . It is Sankaracharya who organized Hinduism and helped in its upliftment. Once Sankaracharya was going to few houses to take bhiksha. He came across a hut and asked for bhiksha. ( food ). The woman inside the house was embarrassed as a saint had came to her house for food but she is so poor that nothing was available in her house. She searched all the places and finally found a old Amla fruit (Emblic myrobalan) ( nellikkai in tamil ). The poor women was feeling shy to give only this little amla fruit to Sankaracharya but she had immense devotion and don't want to send the saint empty handed. She offered the amla fruit in the bowl of Lord Sankaracharya. Birth of Kanakadhara stotram : Sankaracharya realized the woman's devotion irrespective of being poor. He immediately started singing twenty one slokas praising Goddess Mahalakshmi, praying her to bless the poor woman by driving her poverty and grant her riches.

Kanakadhara Stotram written by his holiness 'Sri Adi Shankaracharya', when his holiness went to 'Bhiksha' in 'kadali' (Sri Adi Shankaracharya birth place) he saw a poor lady who own nothing to offer bhiksha to shankaracharya. Finally the lady offered an 'Amla' which was there in her house. His holiness then prayed 'Goddess Lakshmi' to bless the old lady with wealth and prosperity. Goddess Lakshmi then showered 'Golden Amlas' for 3 and half hours. Still today in 'kadali (Kerala)' one can see the house who received 'Goddess lakshmi' blessings. The house entitle with a name 'Swarnathamanai' (Golden house). Hence the name 'Kanaka dhara'. Kindly listen and share this.

Singer: Kamala Kumari Nagisetty Kanakadhara stotram is a very famous and holy script authored by none other than Sri Sri Adi Sankaracharya. The story behind the stotram goes thus.Shankaracharya ones goes to a very poor woman's house for Biksha. Asis the tradition in olden days, you can never turn around a personwho comes for Biksha. That poor lady has just one amla (usili kaya in telugu) with her in her house. She had planned to eat it that day as she had nothing else with her. But when the jagadguru himself had come to her house for biksha, she couldnt help but give her only possession, the amla. Jagadguru immediately understands this. He comes into her courtyard and prays to lord mahalakshmi in 22 beautiful verses, starting as // Angam Hare Pulaka bhooshana mashrayanthim // At the end of this 22 verses, Goddess MahaLaksmi is so pleased with Sankaracharya that he gives him a darshan and grants him a boon. He says he being a sanyasi doesnt want anything, and instead asks goddess to grant wealth to this poor woman. Lakshmi is very pleased with sankaracharya as he does not want anything for himself and instead prays for the well being of others. She immediately rains golden Amlas on the poor womans house. She becomes very rich. At the same time, she offers one more boon to sankaracharya that whoever reads his slokas, from now on to be called as the Kanakadhara stotram, with full sincerity will be always blessed by goddess lakshmi with all wealth.

English Translation by Ramesh Krishnakumar, to the stirring rendering by M.S.Subbulakshmi This Divine Hymn to the Goddess of Prosperity is considered to be powerful and beneficial to those who recite or listen. Adi Sankara one of the greatest Hindu saints was born in a poor Brahmin family in Kerala. After his initiation into the spiritual path, it was a routine to beg alms for his food. One day when he went to a Brahmin house, the lady of the house was so poor that she did not have anything to give him. She searched hard and found one small fruit of (amla) gooseberry, which she gave to Sankara the boy. He was so touched by her gesture that he composed these 21 mellifluous hymns on Goddess Lakshmi. It is said that hearing this Goddess lakshmi poured golden gooseberries as rain into the poor womans house. Even today it is believed that poverty would be banished by singing this hymn.
