Television is a ubiquitous part of any child’s young life and helps them to see another window to the world they wouldn’t see otherwise. All of us have those shows from our past that we loved unconditionally as kids and still carry with us into adulthood nostalgia. On the flipside, we also all have those shows that made us feel funny, disturbed, and downright scared and you’d all be pleased to know that tradition of adults frightening children via the use of puppets and psychedelic imagery took place all over the world and is still going strong today. Strap in and I’ll take you on a ride through some of the creepiest and most bizarre television shows ever created for children, a ride you may never recover from. →Subscribe for new videos every day! → → GET A T-SHIRT - →Top 10 Objects That Were Clearly Invented Just to Annoy Physics: →Simon's VLOG: Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! The Domesday Project (spelt Doomsday Project by some) was a collaboration between the BBC, Acorn Computers, Philips and Logica to create a digital and updated version of the 1086 Domesday book. This digital version would use the latest in cutting edge interactive video and be held on the latest LaserDisc technology. Aided by schools across the country, in a huge national collaboration project, this would be an enormous project spanning 2 years and collecting a huge range of data from the UK. Alongside this data were photos, stories and even the ability to walk around several UK towns. Just like Google Earth or Streetview in the 1980s. You can actually experience real 1980s street footage, which you control. If you want a window into the 80s, then this is the multimedia machine to use. All this is the exciting 80s I remember. Packed with emerging technology and exciting projects, and its one reason I love it. Thank you, as always, to the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge for allowing me to film and use their glorious machinery. Viewers like you help make PBS (Thank you 😃) . Support your local PBS Member Station here: The Legend of Zelda has been massively popular for over 30 years running. People LOVE the series, creating fan art, cosplay, and diligently purchasing each new release in the series. But does this Zelda series exploit our feelings of nostalgia? We remember playing as kids, and the music, world, and even sounds bring back warm fuzzy feelings. Are the creators riding that success and using our childhood memories to their own gain? Are the games really that great? Watch the episode to find out! Yet another reupload of an episode that got nibbled on by the YT bots. The changes to this posting are minimal: The end music has been tweaked and I’ve gone back and resynced the Shakey’s ad (something that managed to slide right past me the first time around). That’s about it. Original Tagline: The 13th episode of the Archive proves to be a very unlucky one for your humble host. This time, we look at some choice (well, sort of choice) local kid's shows dating from the early 1950's through the late '90's. When I started my channel I was originally called RebelWithoutApplause and I did a bunch of videos that I've locked away in sheer embarrassment. A lot of them were influenced by the creators I was really enjoying at the time like Cinema Snob, Cyr, and a bunch of others. I figured I'd share some of these videos with you in a new series called Zane's Lost Video Archive. This first episode is a video I did about my distaste for the term "90's kids" and all the hate that modern popular culture gets. This was recorded probably a year and a half or so ago. I hope you enjoy! LIKE! COMMENT! SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE!

Wednesday, January 20, 2016 The CSRC was pleased to welcome artist and collector Guadalupe Rosales to discuss the Chicana/o underground party crews and rave scenes of Los Angeles during the 1990s, through the lens of her collection of ephemera and memorabilia she has archived at the CSRC. Included in the discussion were panelists Rachael Ortiz aka "Flame," Carlos "Exit" Landeros, Michael Rodriguez, Manuel Corral aka “Dose” & “Deluxe,” and Eileen “Michele” Torres. The event was moderated by Sandra Ruiz, visiting lecturer in the departments of Chicana/o Studies and Spanish & Portuguese. Guadalupe Rosales is a visual artist whose work utilizes marginalized histories and personal experiences – memory, trauma and nostalgia. She is currently working on a project dealing with the Los Angeles party crew and rave scene in the ’90s that will be exhibited in 2017 at PSSST, an artist-run not-for-profit space located in Boyle Heights. The Queer Kid Stuff channel discusses gender and sexuality issues and is aimed at children ages 3 to 7. While I don't have a problem with channels discussing gender or sexuality, or even targeting their content at a younger demographic, ages 3 to 7 seems a bit young. Furthermore, the content found on the channel is confusing and inaccurate. Also, who is Lindsay, the host of Queer Kid Stuff? What is her motivation? On her personal channel, she endorses a certain work that relays the idea that children are sexual beings and their innocence is a fictional concept pushed by adults and their nostalgia surrounding childhood. STORY-LINE If you were born in the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), this place will take you back to days gone by. From children's books to statues of former Soviet leaders this exhibition is packed with nostalgia. This museum of USSR memorabilia has opened recently in Belarus, ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution next year. For visitor Emma Galushkina it brings back fond memories of being a school girl. "There are so many wonderful things which remind me of such a warm and kind atmosphere. I remember well my childhood, school years", she says. Most of the 5,000 exhibit items were donations from the general public. From school books, tape recorders and motorbikes to statues and photographs of Lenin and Brezhnev, it's a step back in time to normal life during the Soviet Union era. Museum founder Nikolay Kurnosov says it's the mundane things that evoke the most memories. "We see such sincere and pleasant emotions which are inspired, not so much by political symbols and the history of the Communist Party and propaganda. Of course people always pay attention to simple, mundane things, which remind visitors of pleasant events of childhood and that era", he says. The museum is located in the Mogilev region in Belarus. Good clean fun is had by all in this entertaining issue of a cinema club magazine for kids. There's swimming and sporting rivalry between two Regal Cinema youth football teams, Edmonton and Norwood. Creative North Shields members have a go at plaster modelling of their favourite cartoon characters, and a group of youngsters visit the famous model village at Bourton on the Water in the Cotswolds. Our Club Magazine was a cinemagazine series for children which ran for 58 issues between 1945 and 1950. It was made by Wallace Film Productions on behalf of the Children's Educational Film Department (CEF), a division of Gaumont British Instructional and the Rank Corporation. Part education, part entertainment, the films were a popular feature of the children's cinema club programme at the Odeon and Gaumont chains. Part of their appeal to young audiences was undoubtedly seeing other club members of similar age and interests on screen. This video is part of the Orphan Works collection. Skipping WAY ahead in the numeration of this series, we look at the latest official Super NES release: Nintendo's new mini-Super NES, which includes 20 classic games and the shiny new ("new") release Star Fox 2. While there aren't a lot of surprises here, the Super NES mini offers a remarkably faithful and fully featured emulation experience for its price. And the games this time around are a lot less hit-or-miss than they were on the NES mini… (Note: The unit pictured in this video was provided by Nintendo for review purposes.)
