A journey from Valmikinagar in Bihar to Paniyahwa in Uttar Pradesh onboard a WDP4D locomotive passing through dense forests. Train:- 19040 Avadh Express Valmikinagar is situated on the Narkatiaganj - Gorakhpur Broad Gauge railway line and it has a railway station named Valmikinagar Road. The route from Valmiki nagar to Paniyahwa passes through the dense forests of Valmiki Tiger Reserve which means that frequent sights of wild animals like tigers and elephants on the tracks is very common here. If you notice then you can see walls are constructed on both sides of the railway tracks throughout the forest area to prevent animals from crossing the tracks and stay in their jungle limit but still some of them trespass the tracks, following which there has been imposed a speed restriction of 60KMPH from sunrise to sunset and 35 kmph from sunset to sunrise in the jungle. Just see the heavy lush greenery surrounding the train. There are 3 small bridges throughout the jungle. Madanpur Devi Sthaan Temple can also be seen. There was an incident around 10 years back on the 2nd bridge near the temple- about 8-10 pilgrims were ran over by Saptkranti SF express on the middle of the bridge while they were crossing it. After crossing the jungle, the train veers to the left for crossing the mighty Gandak Bridge and arriving at Paniyahwa. There is speed restriction of 20kmph for a short distance in between so we slow down a bit. The bridge is on a higher altitude so the EMD was put in 8th notch to achieve that gradient. An interesting thing to note is that the bridge marks the border of Bihar/East Central Railways and Uttar Pradesh/NE Railways. Also, I was constantly trying to locate the Himalayas from the bridge area but failed because pollution had covered up most of the distant scenes. A little sights of the foothills can be observed if looked closely. Enjoy the jet engine sounds of the EMD WDP4D locomotive and plug in headphones/earphones for best experience! About Valmiki National Park:- Valmiki National Park, Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary is located at the India-Nepal border in the West Champaran district of Bihar, India on the bank of river Gandak. It is the only National park in Bihar. The extensive forest area of Valmikinagar was previously owned by the Bettiah Raj and Ramanagar Raj until the early 1950s. Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) is one of the natural virgin recesses in east India, situated in the north west corner of Bihar. The pristine forest and wilderness of VTR is an excellent example of Himalayan Terai landscape. VTR comprises the Valmiki National Park and Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary. The VTR forest area covers 899.38 square kilometres (347.25 sq mi), which is 17.4% of the total geographical area of the district West Champaran. As of 2013, there were 22 tigers in the Reserve. The name of the district West Champaran derives from two words, Champa and Aranya, meaning forest of Champa trees. Geographically, it is situated between 83°0 50′ and 84°0 10′ E longitude and between 27°0 10′ and 27°0 03′ N latitude. Total forest area comprises about 900 square kilometres (350 sq mi), out of which the Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary is 880 square kilometres (340 sq mi) and spread of the National Park is about 335 square kilometres (129 sq mi) area. In the north, the protected areas are bordered by Nepal's Chitwan National park while the Indian state Uttar Pradesh bounds the sanctuary from western side. Bihar Government is turning 800 hectares of forest in VTR into Grassland making it India's biggest grassland. The landscape of VTR encompasses foothills ranges of Himalayan Siwaliks with mosaic of the cliffs, ridges, gorges, hills, streams and valleys; dense forests, open woodlands, grasslands, swamps and riverine fringe. Criss-crossing and meandering rivers, streams and rivulets, man-made canals; Swamps and Grasslands. River Gandak forms the western boundary of Valmiki wildlife sanctuary. It enters in India at Valmikinagar, where two rivulets Sonha and Pachnad joins it, forming a holy confluence ‘Triveni’. The river is called ‘Narayani’ in Nepal. Harha – Masan River system originates from the Valmiki Forests and forms Burhi Gandak River down south. River Pandai flows into Bihar (India) from Nepal in the eastern end of the Sanctuary and meets Masan. All these rivers with their precursor and tributaries namely Rohua, Kotrahia, Manor, Bhapsa, Koshil, Singha, Dhonghi, Ganguli, Dhoram are full of youth and verve. The wildlife found in the forest of VTR are the Bengal tiger, Indian rhinoceros, Black bear, Indian leopard, wild dog, wild buffalo, wild boar etc. There are several species of deer and antelopes found in VTR which are barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, Sambar, blue bull. Apart from that the striped hyena, leopard cat, wild cat, fishing cat, languor, monkey, and flying squirrel can also be sighted in VTR. The tiger's population in the Reserve was 10 in 2010, which increased to 22 in 2013.

A video from the cabin of WDP4B class of EMD diesel locomotives of Indian Railways. The WDP4B is a 4500 horsepower(3360 kW power output), 6 traction motor, turbocharger equipped electromotive diesel engine with a single cab. The engine is a two stroke V-16 diesel engine. Fuel capacity of the locomotive is 6100 litres or 1600 US Gallons. The maximum permissible speed of this locomotive is 130 kmph while it is capable of doing 180 kmph. The loco here in the video is operating in long hood and is having a load of 25 ICF passenger coaches. Loco is from Tughlakabad shed WDP4B 40019. The EMD GT46PAC or WDP4 is a passenger-hauling Diesel-Electric locomotive with AC electric transmission designed by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and built by both GM-EMD and under license by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) of Varanasi, India for Indian Railways as their classes WDP4, WDP4B and WDP4D. The GT46PAC is a passenger version of the previous Indian Railways EMD GT46MAC freight locomotive. The locomotive has a 16-cylinder 710G3B diesel engine with a maximum speed of 904 RPM. The locomotives can be used in either direction, and frequently haul trains long hood forward, as in the video. Due to some visibility hindrances faced by loco pilots in driving long hood front, the basic WDP4B model has been modified to dual cab to eliminate any such possibility. The other features of the WDP4B and the WDP4D are the same. The newer cabs have slightly wider profiles to improve visibility. Some of the WDP4B/WDP4D locomotives have been spotted having a provision for an inverter-driven head-end power unit which allows trains to be run without an End-on generating car (EOG) for hotel power. The loco is very fuel efficient and has minimal exhaust emissions unlike ALCO based locomotives, thanks to its 2 stroke high efficiency diesel engine. The use of the locomotives "long hood forward" (LHF) has been criticised because the driver might have difficulty in seeing signals. You can also see the view in the video. This criticism has been rejected by Indian Railways. But the solution to this problem is to upgrade all WDP4 and WDP4B models from single cabins to WDP4D models of dual cabins.

Use Headphones for best sound experience. This was the first LHB run of 19409 Ahmedabad-Gorakhpur Express in which i was onboard from Lucknow to Gorakhpur. Loco in lead was Vatva WDM3A 16159 (recently transferred from Ratlam) in long hood forward. This one is an excellent chugger and the melodious sound of its turbo is heard in the video. The video starts with the skip of Jarwal Road where the train skips via loop as there was a track tamping machine stabled on the mainline. After the train clears the loop, the real chugging begins but is soon interrupted as the loco pilot applies sudden brakes due to some unknown reason. The train comes to a halt in the middle of the mainline. Few minutes later the train starts to move and the chugging starts again.. this time without interruptions straight from 0 to 110 kmph! The real hugh speed video starts after 5 minutes, so those of you who dont like the slow action may skip directly to 4:50. There are a couple of station skips including Sarju and Maijapur. Also, we meet 15707 Amrapali Express led by GZB WAP5 30019 just after crossing Saryu river. This WDM3A was a superb loco in terms of acceleration as well as braking. It is maintained perfectly by the Diesel Sheds of Western Railways. Kudos to them! I wished to record more station skips but it had gone dark later so I chose not to doorplate and record. Most people dont bother reading the description so if you're reading all the way down till here, do drop a comment about you liked the video or not... I've also implemented a couple of new edits in this video.. do spot them and tell whether you'd like to see more editing in future or like videos raw only. Each of my viewer's suggestion is valuable. Thank you...

Departing from Bhatni Jn. towards Varanasi onboard 15018 Gorakhpur - Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Dadar/Kashi Express. The video is continuous and is recorded upto Salempur Jn. where the train reaches in under 10 minutes after departing from Bhatni. After departure from Bhatni, the double electrified lines to Siwan and Chhapra bifurcate towards the right while the single diesel line takes a sharp curve towards Varanasi. My train was led by an SPJ WDP4D 40356 and it showed pretty cool acceleration. The day was a bit stormy so apologies for wind blast noise in the video.. A video onboard 12957 Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express from Ahmedabad to New Delhi, covering the departure from Ahmedabad and upto leaving the outskirts of the city. The train departs bang on time at 17:40 in the evening behind the macho WDM3D 11494 from Vatva Diesel Shed in short hood. The loco has a superb horn- trademark Vatva WDM3D style! As the train makes its way through the city, we can see the old Metre Gauge alignment still present parallel to us. It continues with us until Sabarmati Diesel loco shed after which it bifurcates towards Botad. Gauge conversion work of Sabarmati-Mahesana MG can be seen in progress. A parallel run with coal loaded freight is encountered and I also meet a Gonda WDM3A 16530R from my locality at Sabarmati. Abandoned metre gauge rolling stock can be seen rusting at Sabarmati yard including coaches, wagons and DMU trainset which used to run in Mehsana-Taranga Hill section. 2 YDM4s homed at Sabarmati but now outbased, namely 6557 and 6666, are seen on flatbed outside Sabarmati. They were sent to Izatnagar workshop, NER for POH and returned 10 months ago to SBI but they are still rusting here, even after being in superb condition. Tried to include some cinematics this time, hope you all like it. If you like the intro part then do let me know in the comments. Your suggestions are always welcome! Thank you... After Aishbagh, the Manaknagar bypass can be seen and also, the old MG line to LJNF can be seen. A freight led by a WDG4 can be seen exiting LKO while Bareilly-Prayag Express waits for starter. Itarsi WDP4D 40159 can be seen waiting for attaching with our train while the regular link of this train from Lucknow is an IZN WDP4D. The train arrives Lucknow around 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

Anandnagar is a town situated near Nepal, and is at a distance of 41 KMs from Gorakhpur. Anandnagar is also known as Pharenda. This station serves as junction to the lines from Nautanwa and Barhni. This video records the journey between Anandnagar to Gorakhpur. I was onboard 55070 Nautanwa Gorakhpur Passsenger led by 16025 GD WDM3A. The train is overtaken by Gonda Gorakhpur DMU at Anandnagar and departs right behind the DMU. The train encounters various crossings with passenger trains en route alongside various stations. The old metre gauge alignment can also be seen alongside the tracks if observed carefully. Our train was detained at Nakaha Jungle for the crossing of GKP-BNY DMU and I ran out of battery to record the last 6 kms of the journey till Gorakhpur. Hope you enjoy!

The time was 17:00 at Kusmhi, when a freight bound to Gorakhpur was stopped at mainline, and another was already present on the freight unloading line. So the down line was left surrounded with freights on both sides. As the signal turned green towards Chhapra, Shaheed express shows up towards the horizon at a devastating pace behind the monster TKD WDP4B 40049. As the train came closer, it brought with it a volcanic dust storm in which the trains and the station disappear! It honked madly and as it crossed the level crossing and approached me, I myself was trapped in the dust storm. The train was at full speed and rocketed past me with a cracking track sound. Meanwhile, 12565 Bihar Sampark Kranti Express also arrives from behind and crosses the Shaheed Express.

Sonpur to Hajipur Jn full train journey of 9 minutes onboard 15028 Maurya Express from Gorakhpur to Ranchi. In between you can also see the Jagjeevan rail bridge on the mighty Gandak River. About Sonpur and Hajipur :- Sonpur (Hindi: सोनपुर) is a town in the Indian state of Bihar, situated on the banks of the River Gandak in Saran district in the Indian state of Bihar. It hosts one of the world's largest Cattle Fair which starts on Kartik Poornima. Nearest Hajipur Vaishali is only 3 km and connecting by road NH-19 or by train Jagjivan bridge for double line railway bridge. Sonpur Sub-division consists of Sonpur, Parsa, Garkha, Dighwara, Dariapur blocks. Sonpur Block has 98 villages. The town is located at 25.7°N 85.1832°E at an altitude of 42 metres (137 ft). The river Gandak must have been the route of the movement of Buddha and his followers from Nepal Tarai to Magadh that is why many of the stupas and similar structures, including Ashoka pillars, are found on the banks of the river. The location of Pathar ki Masjid just opposite the meeting point of the gandak, that is southern bank of the Ganges, shows the Muslim influence of trade and commerce in medieval times. The current township Patna is just the modern version of the makeshift headquarters of military establishments of old Patna city which in turn was later version of Pataliputra, the capital of Maurya Empire. Of the ten railway stations in the world having the longest railway platforms, Sonepur being on the 8th (and 2nd longest at the time of construction) longest platform in the world at 2,415 ft (736 m). It is connected by two rivers, the Ganges and the Gandak. Hariharnath Mandir (Hindi: हरिहर नाथ मंदिर) in Sonpur is also known for the famous temple of shree Hariharnath and the site of the battle of Gaj-Grah and rescue of the former by Hari During Kartik Purnima Ganga Snan or ceremonial bathing in the Ganges is held by Hindus to be unusually efficacious. On the day of full moon (Kartik Purnima) immense crowd assembles and take bath. The Mela commences on that day and lasts for more than a fortnight. The Shiva temple, Kali temple and other temples and historical religious monuments are situated here and social and economical activities are at the highest peak during the Mela period. People come here to pay their oblation to the lords and thus its importance is not within Sonpur of Bihar rather it is of India and world fame. Hajipur is the largest city and headquarters of Vaishali district of Tirhut Division in Indian state of Bihar. Hajipur is 11th leading city and 17th most populous city of the State, making it the second fastest developing city next to Patna. It has a total population of 4.43 lakh as per census 2011. Vaishali district , is ranked 8th on a list of 38 districts in Bihar in terms of growth. The city is known for producing bananas. Patna, the capital of Bihar is only 10 km from Hajipur. The metropolis of Patna comprises PRDA area, includes Hajipur. Mahatma Gandhi Setu, one of the longest bridges in the world, links it to Patna. After Patna, it is the fastest developing city in Bihar, primarily because of its close proximity to Patna (just 10 km). There has been plans to expand Patna to Greater Patna, by absorbing Hajipur and other surrounding towns in it. Hajipur Industrial Area is a developing Business Hub in the northern part of the state. From 1869 to 2002 Hajipur had Nagar Panchayat as the executive unit which later developed into the metropolis in the year 2002 and is administered by a Hajipur Municipal Corporation. The area of Hajipur city spread across 19.64sq. km (7.58 sq mi). The city is divided into 39 wards. In 1979, a museum was established in Hajipur, By the Directorate of Archaeology and museum, Bihar.

I expected a TKD EMD by the horn i heard in the beginning but it was a Gonda WDM3A 16478 with 12557 Saptkranti Superfast Express. Its punctuality is gradually back on track after 15th August 2018 when the new working time table is issued, offering it a 1 hr margin between MFP to GKP. Here the train can be seen far away at Unaula railway station(red signals) and proceeding towards GKP cantt stn.
