Since its inception in the spring of 2012, the First NBC Bank Prep Showcase on WHNO and SportsNOLA has presented 65 high school football, basketball and baseball games. This year’s schedule will feature up to 25 televised events, in addition to up to 35 web-only events on SportsNOLA. Last year’s web-only schedule included seven different sports. New Orleans-based First NBC Bank has again agreed to be the title sponsor of the package. “First NBC Bank is proud to sponsor the Prep Showcase to recognize the outstanding achievements of our high school athletes in the New Orleans area,” said Ashton Ryan Jr., president and chief executive officer of First NBC Bank. “These athletes work tirelessly to perform in both the classroom and on the athletic field and we hope by our leadership to return to the days, the so-called ‘glory days,’ when our community both enjoyed as well as recognized the efforts these fine young people put forth. “First NBC is a community bank and we can think of nothing better than to showcase the amazing talent, commitment and teamwork of our local high school athletes. We hope the entire area will follow our lead.”

As the high school baseball regular season winds down, the First NBC Bank Prep Showcase on WHNO TV 20 and SportsNOLA.com will feature three games in as many days over the final week of the season. On Monday at 4 p.m., St. Charles Catholic meets Brother Martin in a key non-district game from Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Both schools rank in the top 10 in their respective classes in the latest power ratings. Tuesday features a District 9-5A matchup with current league leader John Curtis, in its first season in 5A, taking on Jesuit at John Ryan Stadium at 7 p.m. Both teams are looking to maintain their position to be at home in the first round of the playoffs. Then on Wednesday at 6 p.m., the First NBC Bank Prep Showcase’s baseball schedule wraps up for 2016 with a non-district matchup as Newman visits Chalmette. Both teams remain in contention for their district titles with an opportunity to improve playoff positioning. The originally scheduled telecast between Ponchatoula and St. Paul’s on Thursday, April 14, has been canceled because of weather. The Newman-Chalmette game will replace it on the schedule. All games will air live on SportsNOLA.com and air on a tape delayed basis on WHNO. The WHNO schedule is listed below. Ken Trahan and Danny Riehm are serving as the broadcast team for the First NBC Bank Prep Showcase’s baseball coverage for the fifth consecutive season.
