This was made using a cheap webcam on a metal frame mounted on my drawing board. I used VideoVelocity time-lapse software set at one frame per second, and edited the result with VideoPad. The picture quality is poor, but I am about to make another using a better camera. The actual sculpture was made in modelling wax and probably took 10-12 hours in several sittings. The subject matter is dream-inspired. The background music is 'Une Barque sur l'Ocean' by Ravel, played by Svyatoslav Antipov.

The painting was made in 1435 by Robert Campin (1387-1444), known as the Master of Flémalle, and is one of a pair of a husband and wife housed in the National Gallery, London. The couple are probably prosperous townspeople from Tournai, where Campin worked. The sculpture repesents about fifty hours of work executed under a time-lapse camera set at one frame per second, in several sittings. The resulting video was dramically edited down to match the length of the harpsichord music of Hugh Aston (contemporary with the painting) which is played here by the Russian pianist Svyatoslav Antipov.
