***ATTENTION!!! I will not hesitate to mute anyone who cannot express their thoughts in a respectful manner. *** There is a lot of talk about cheap plastic retro turntables destroying your records. But is it actually true that low-end Crosley, Ion, Steepletone, GPO etc. record players are to be avoided? This video answers that question and delivers proof.

The Audio-Technica AT-LP60, Pioneer PL-990, and other similar inexpensive turntables are very popular and generally get good reviews, but they've come under criticism for various reasons which I discuss and test in this in-depth video, to find out if that criticism is valid or not. 3:11 Tracking force 8:13 Anti-skating 12:12 Skipping on modern vinyl? 15:30 Speed stability 18:00 Audio quality & upgrades 19:23 A cheap turntable makes cheap records sound better 21:24 My conclusion 22:37 Other people's opinions about these turntables Do you own one of these turntables? If you're thinking about getting into vinyl records, this short video is ESSENTIAL to watch first. People are going to steer you away from certain turntables, and they may not explain why, which can be really frustrating. I wanted to, in a simple manner, explain WHY people tell you not to get a Crosley or All-In-One record player so that you can dive into the hobby on the right foot. If you're a knowledgeable record fanatic, hopefully this video will be something you can share with new friends that want to join the wonderful world of vinyl. Remington was a US record label founded by Hungarian producer Donald H. Gabor (1912-1980). It was active from 1950 to 1957 and its focus was low budget releases of classical music. Although they were marketed as high quality products for the time, they really weren't. Records were pressed on a cheap, low quality kind of vinylite, resulting in more prominent surface noise. Plus, the recordings were made under really tight budgets, with no time allowed for rehearsals and/or multiple takes. The LP in this video is a copy of a Remington release from 1951 (catalog number R-199-8) by the Vienna Symphonic Society Orchestra under the baton of Austrian conductor Kurt Wöss (1914-1987) performing Ludwig Van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Opus 92. But if Remington products were that bad, why am I sharing this recording, you may ask? The reason is what classical music reviewer David Hoehl ( http://www.tnt-audio.com/edit/drh_e.html ) has to say about it, since I wholeheartedly agree with his sentiments in spite of the fact that I haven't heard a whole lot of versions of Beethoven's 7th in my life. Here's what he said: "My vote for the best orchestra in the world: The 'Austrian Symphony Orchestra' (I believe actually something called the 'Vienna Tonkunstler Orchestra' under a nom de disque) as recorded in Beethoven's 7th under Kurt Wöss, a then-young Weingartner protege, for the early budget LP label Remington. These guys were barely able to play the score. The horns have problems. The strings are scrappy, and their unison, well, let's just say it was no threat to their neighbors across town. They were recording for Remington, a cheapskate outfit that wouldn't pay for rehearsal or retakes. They're desperate. And out of that desperation they do the only thing that an orchestra can do to get through a crisis: they play the hell out of the score and knock the performance right out of the park. Sometimes all the polish in the world isn't as important as heart. And on that day, in that cheap studio or hall, under those adverse circumstances, that bedraggled band had heart in spades." And that's exactly what I feel in this performance: Not top-quality, but plenty of passion and heart. And that, in the end, is what art is about. An album of sing along style tracks in stereo. Released on Acorn records in 1960, this album features recycled content and jacket art. The performances are competent and the stereo separation is good, it just never seems to shake the campy sound these albums are well known for. For all of you vinyl lovers that want to clean your records cheaply and effectively. Here is my low cost solution. There are hundreds of youtube videos dedicated to various techniques of cleaning records. I think my way is probably one of the best low cost methods. If you have the finances to invest in a professional record cleaning system you may not need this information. But if you are like most of us trying to pinch pennies and save money, this is a great way to clean those thrift store and flea market records you find while crate digging. All of the components of this system will usually cost you less than 10 dollars and last for many years. Get the word out! Records are works of art and need to be treated with dignity and respect. A clean, well cared for record will last for hundreds of years. Lets preserve this musical legacy for future generations. Peace... August 16, 2017 UPDATE!!! For an even cheaper formula, I have started adding just a few drops of a clear detergent such as Ivory Liquid or Dawn Free & Gentle INSTEAD of the Jet Dry. Sometimes the Jet Dry seemed to leave a slight haze on the vinyl if too much was added to the formula. With the few drops of clear detergent, I see very little to no haze. However, if this method with the Jet Dry is working for you, Great! It worked well with me for a long time. Thanks for watching.

REBEAT CEO Günter Loibl has a plan to change the way vinyl records are mastered. If what he is planning actually comes to pass, records could be "one step" mastered on a ceramic disc that could possibly press 10,000 records before it begins to wear. Watch the interview AnalogPlanet editor Michael Fremer conducted this week with Loibl in the Vienna offices of Pro-Ject CEO Heinz Lichtenegger.

Little John Records was a very successful budget children's label from the early 1950's. The only facts known about the label is that it released 31 records, has some connection with Pat Ballard, they where sold without sleeves for ten cents each, and they operated between 1951 and 1952. These record sides contain a mixture of both traditional and original compositions by Pat Ballard. The titles are as follows: Record 1 The Boy With The Matches (a song about a boy that burned his house to the ground by playing with matches) and Riding the Fire Engine. Record 2: The Toy Parade and The Lost Little Puppy. Record 3: While The Shepherds Were In Their Fields and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

No. Important footnotes: (click Show More) * I am in no way advocating the purchase of Crosley Cruiser record players. They sound terrible and better choices are available in the same price range. I'm just disproving the claim that they will "destroy" or "chew up" records. In normal use and with proper care, your records will be fine. * BSR record changers were the Crosleys of their day; they were lambasted by audiophiles as "record grinders", because many of them had tracking forces similar to the cheap record players of today -- but yet, if you've ever listened to a used record from the '60s through '80s, chances are it was played on a BSR or similarly crude record player at some point in its life, and yet was not "destroyed". * I take "destroyed" or "chewed up" to mean a record that has become unplayable and unlistenable due to skipping or extreme distortion; not merely to mean the scratchiness typical of "well-loved" records. When faced with a scratchy record, most people just turn down the tone control and continue to play it. * The elliptical styli favored by audiophiles will cause excessive record wear at tracking forces much above 3 grams, so 3 to 3.5 grams is frequently cited as the maximum safe tracking force for all turntables. However, the conical or spherical styli used by inexpensive record players and "DJ" cartridges can apply higher tracking forces without any significant risk of excessive wear. When stereo LPs first came out, 5 to 6 grams was cited as the maximum safe tracking force, as compared to the 10 to 12 grams that was typical of older monaural record players! * As I mentioned in the video, the LP I used for my test has very low groove modulation, causing surface noise to be much more audible. Modern LPs and 12-inch singles are cut much louder, enough to drown out the surface noise of all but the most extreme tracking forces I used during my test. * Some audiophiles have defended their overblown claims by saying that the damage caused by a cheap record player will only be audible on a "good" turntable, because on a Crosley the fidelity is so low that you wouldn't be able to hear it. But other tests have disproven this; see Record Raid's video "Will cheap turntables damage your records?": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7K3XcD46Wk0

A collection of Hawaiian recordings on a 1957 budget album release. This album was originally released on Gramophone records in 1953, with the source material coming from the prior decade. It's a solid hawaiian record from the lead in groove on side 1, to the lock groove on side 2. The recordings are on the older side, they were made in the mid 40's after all, however they manage to hold your attention if you are in the Hawaiian music mood. Side 1 Song Of The Islands You Are Like A Beautiful Flower Sweet Constancy One, Two, Three, Four Kalima Waltz My Isle Of Golden Dreams Moonlight In Hawaii Aloha Eo (Farewell To Thee) Side 2 Paradise Isle Beautiful Kahama Hilo March Mai Poina Oe La'U (Forget Me Not) Maori Brown Eyes Drowsy Waters Dreams Of Old Hawaii Hawaiian Sunset National Hawaiian Orchestra

A fantastic set of Seeburg 1000 background tracks, this video contains a complete side of one of discs in the amazing Seeburg Background music series. Start at 0:07 to get right to the music. Seeburg put out a background music system starting in 1959 and it went clear to 1986, issuing thing special background recordings on nine inch, 16 and 2/3 rpm records, with a two-inch center spindle hole. They were designed to be played on a special record player that could hold 25 records, and play both sides of the record, rotating through them in a cycle, the idea was that you would have heard 1000 tunes by the time the whole stack completed.... which the average side is about 40 minutes long, so 80 minutes a record, times that by 25.... that is more than enough to go the entire day and then some without hearing a single repeat.... They were issued as a subscription, and all of them were supposed to be returned to Seeburg to be destroyed after they were rotated out... yet a lot of them still made it to the present (akin to all those V-DIscs in WW2 that were not supposed to last past that conflict but are still around as a hot collector's item). You can expect to pay around 10 dollars per disk if you wish to own one of these records these days. There was a set of "series" that offered the subscriber various "flavors" of music. The Mood series was made for restaurants and upscale establishments, it was lush and posh as possible. The Basic series was a little more upbeat but mostly the same, made for shopping malls and supermarkets..... The Industrial series was made for factories, and are very upbeat and rather varied, by the 1970's we have Disco in this series... Other series were developed for the "private" market, like the Encore series (Jazz based, very classy), the Penthouse series, and all sorts.... Eventually, the old record based system failed to be competitive with tape-based systems, and they eventually took over. Now we just have pop music being passed off a background music now when we go shopping. Feel free to ID the tracks, and do know that I did clean up the audio with denoise and clickrepair, so what artifacts from the record the audio comes from are very few and far between. -Video Upload powered by https://www.TunesToTube.com

A budget release featuring selections from "The King and I" and other Show tunes. This is an excellent album of Show tunes featuring "The King and I". Featuring a full orchestra and a set of excellent vocalists, this album is a great example of what mid-century budget labels put out. The fidelity is very good, considering this album was recorded in 1953. This album will be presented track by track. Each track will be uploaded one by one, at the rate of one a week, until the entire album has be uploaded. Little John Records was a very successful budget children's label from the early 1950's. The only facts known about the label is that it released 31 records, has some connection with Pat Ballard, they where sold without sleeves for ten cents each, and they operated between 1951 and 1952. This record side contains one of the many original children songs Pat Ballard wrote just for this record label.

Comparing audio quality between a new $99 Audio-Technica AT-LP60 turntable and a far superior vintage 1970s Technics SL-1900 turntable equipped with the popular and well-reviewed AT95E phono cartridge. Pre-emptive FAQ: Q: How am I supposed to compare audio quality through a YouTube video with compressed audio? A: You don't have to. You can download the audio samples in uncompressed WAV format here: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B_oqlENevINHaEZaZ0dqOUR2c28/edit Q: I get an error when trying to open that link. A: Try opening it in private/Incognito mode in your browser. If that still doesn't work, here are the direct download links: sitd-technics.wav https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_oqlENevINHZWdwV0g4UDEzRTg sitd-atlp60.wav https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_oqlENevINHa3VVcTY3OWlXQXM difference-technics.wav https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_oqlENevINHUC12U2V6MEdELUE difference-atlp60.wav https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_oqlENevINHWmJfSHZadWlWbFU Q: The music isn't good enough to reveal the true difference in audio quality between the turntables. A: Unfortunately, until someone releases royalty-free music on vinyl, I'm limited by what music I can use that won't result in YouTube putting copyright restrictions on this video. But here's the $99 AT-LP60 playing a Linda Ronstadt song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9y9gpJVbE8 You can compare that to the same song being played on a VPI Scout (a $2200 turntable) with an Ortofon 2M Black (a $700 phono cartridge): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeHMgp_TpHI Q: The AT95E is still only a "budget" phono cartridge. You need to use a much better cartridge to make this a valid comparison. A: Many reviewers insist that the AT-LP120 and other mid-range turntables equipped with the AT95E cartridge offer "significantly better sound quality" and "will get a finer, more detailed sound out of your records" than the AT-LP60's AT3600L cartridge. Judge for yourself if you think that's true. Q: Regardless of the audio quality, everyone tells me the AT-LP60 is a bad turntable. A: See my video "Cheap turntables - Are they really THAT bad?": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeZ9liZO-f8 Q: What are the song titles? A: Shot in the Dark - "Make Up My Mind"; Vic Damone - "It Makes No Difference"; Mr. Fantastic (John LaDuca) - "Bittersweet Samba"

This video isn't just a simple review of the Tube Box S - It's more to do with watching me go through a process of elimination, trying to find out why my vinyl didn't sound like vinyl anymore before finally making things right again by dropping £300 on a Phono Pre-Amp. Yes, it's expensive, but you'll find that expensive things usually are. ;-) Purchasing links below: CLICK SHOW MORE Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/1OLJX2N Amazon US: http://amzn.to/1YvZFU7 AFFLIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE All links are Affiliated where possible. The most technologically advanced record players were made over 30 years ago. The example demonstrated here, the Sharp RP-117 from 1983, let you navigate records using features you would expect to find on a CD player. The demonstration part starts at 08:58 Old HiFi Catalogues http://www.audiopower.ru/content/lib/brand/54/period/4/year/210/ -------------SUPPORT--------------- This channel can be supported through Patreon https://www.patreon.com/techmoan Patrons usually have early access to videos ---------------SUBSCRIBE------------------ http://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan?sub_confirmation=1 By the way the Muppets outros are taking a break for a few weeks, but they will be back... ...and yes I'm working on a minidisc video..however a short DAT retrospective will need to come first. I'm aiming for a Jan 2017 release date for the DAT vid. FAQs Laser Turntable So just to reiterate why it's very unlikely I'll ever review the ELP laser turntable. 1. It cost $8000 for the budget model the last time they published the prices (they took the prices off their website a couple of years ago and made it POA). It also has to be imported from Japan and you pay the postage and the duty charges. 2. It can't read coloured, clear or picture disc vinyl 3. As it converts the analogue record to digital, dust is a big issue. Rather than a small crackle or a pop it's now a dropout in the audio. 4. It has been out for years (decades) and yet still appears to be seen as a silly novelty by the HiFi press. That's worrying for a $8000+ product. 7+TRACKS PER SIDE Most frequently repeated question: What do you do if there are more than 7 tracks on one side of an LP? The obvious and predictably boring answer: Press play & you can listen to your entire 15+ track vinyl record You can still also navigate directly to any of the first 7 tracks on either side, and play both sides without getting up to flip the record. If you were expecting it to blow up and set on fire...sorry for the disappointment. ------AFFLIATED LINKS/ADVERTISING NOTICE------- All links are Affiliated where possible. An excellent orchestral Christmas record released on Wyncote in 1966. In the world of budget vinyl records, Christmas instrumental albums were either the extremely recycled and repackaged "The 1000 Strings Play For Christmas" album, or some in house orchestral production. This is one of the in house orchestral Christmas albums. This album features a small orchestra that has it's moments. As expected for a mid 60's album, this album has near lifelike fidelity. The only real distraction is the noisy vinyl Wyncote pressed most of their albums on. Using digital software this has been reduced to tolerable levels, but its presence is still very much there. As typical of my uploads, I upload albums by track at the rate of one per week. I encourage you to subscribe so you don't miss out on the rest of the album. This is a Little Golden Record, but you probability knew that already. Little Golden as you may know was a very popular children's label back in the 1950's. Little Golden Records were at first released as 78's pressed in a yellow vinyl compound, and were about 6 inches in diameter, which does not allow you to use these on most automatic changers. Later Little Golden branched of into 45's as more and more children's record players gained the ability to play 45's. This is a release titled "Brave Cowboy Bill", which took up both sides of this six inch yellow record, and 78 rpm record. The message of this record was that no matter how tough (or grown up) you are, you always obey your mother. Note:This video was filmed and uploaded long before I began recording directly from the preamp. The audio will be less then grand, however this video is one of my better performers in terms of views.

Design records was Pickwick's first LP record line. The initial releases were had liner notes, jackets with the album title printed on the spine, and inner sleeves. 1957-1958 was the golden age for budget record labels. In an era where "Tops/Mayfair" was king, every budget label had to match the high production standards, high quality pressings, and quality jackets and sleeves to match. That being the case, Design was trying to release the best possible products for the very competitive budget record market. The stereo recordings were true stereo, and the quality of the recording were excellent. This album is a example of how the budget labels were making their albums in the 1957-1958 era. This album features extensive liner notes, blurb after blurb about how high quality the album was. In short this album is one of the better budget Classical releases. After this time period, all acrossed the board budget labels issued albums in shoddy jackets and with noisy vinyl. The albums features two infamous Classical compositions; Beethoven's 5th Symphony, an Schubert's Unfinished Symphony (8th). The first side has almost the entire Beethoven's 5th symphony. They decide to trim the 2nd movement with no explanation. Side 1 Beethoven's 5th part one (0:04) -The complete 1st movement Beethoven's 5th part two (6:31) -Portion of the movement 2, and the complete movements of 3 and 4. Side 2 Schubert's Unfinished 8th Symphony (18:19)

An easy listening record filled with a nice and relaxing recordings by some rather famous artists. The Three Suns need no introduction, they were a popular group in the 1950's, as proven by the amount of albums of their's that turn up at thrift stores. The first side is dedicated to them, using recordings The Three Suns made on Majestic records in the mid to late 40's before signing onto RCA records. These Majestic sides were purchased by Oberstien when he bought the Majestic label in the early 50's. It was perhaps one of the best business moves Oberstien ever made, as the label had older recordings of many famous artists, such as Percy Faith, The Three Suns, Noro Morales, and many more current hit makes at the time. The second side is a mix of material, including what sounds like a Pied Piper side (Tea For Two). Side 1 Jealousy Girl Of My Dreams Flower Dance Who's Sorry Now Busy Holiday Stardust Barcarolle Side 2 When You're Smiling Body And Soul Get Happy Tea For Two Oh Marie Chop Sticks Stella By Starlight -uploaded in HD at http://www.TunesToTube.com
