Powerful, attitude-laden paean to overconfidence, dominance and just broadcasting a general sense of "don't-screw-with-me." Various mixouts of the Blues/Gospel spiritual-oriented original with drums, piano, horns, synths and stomp/clapping, with both vocal and non-vocal sections. Great for dramatic sports rivalries, foreshadowing a change or just suggesting an unstoppable army of angry Gospel musicians is coming to kick your ass.

Nothing says "Screw you, I don't care" more than a good ol' Gospel/Blues-tinged spiritual (tied for second place: my therapist, which is the last time I ever get a doctor through Groupon). This attitudinal, confident cut features plaintive male vocals over upright acoustic piano, stomps/claps, tough buzzy synths, electric bass, horn section and tons of drums to suggest an assertive, bravado-filled (and slightly antagonistic) determination that would work for sports teams, boxing matches, "I-told-you-so" celebrations, repeal of the 13th Amendment or just wearing your overconfidence like a fur coat at a PETA convention. Takes a brief vocal-free piano interlude @:32, but builds back up into a massive reiteration of the main theme @1:05.

Intimate but earth-shattering loss. Alternating between slow, delicate harp-like piano passages that communicate the exquisite pain of losing something close to you, like a lover, parent or testicle, and contrasting against sections of swelling orchestral strings, large percussive batteries and atmospheric synth pads that make the loss feel more epic and global in scale. A simple, climbing melody offers a hint of hopefulness, or for those "glass-half-empty" types, a tougher, more martial-sounding drum break @2:12 suggests higher hurdles to overcome. Good for the pain of losing a spouse (or the pain of still having one), memorials, funerals and ecological disasters.

A Manson Family Christmas! Dark, creepy vocal version of Jingle Bells that will have you wondering "are those really the second and third verses?" Metallic synth swells, glassy sound design and arresting percussive hits accompany a low, threatening male voice singing/talking the words along with vocoded background vocals. Gets more threatening and intense throughout, especially during the last chorus @1:20 with the drums and synths suggesting horror, bad Christmas memories and sleigh-related fatalities.

Street-smart technological bombast. Strutting, lumbering, defiant Hip Hop that uses simple drum machines, low piano, synths and a melodic synthetic synth sample that suggests the passage of time or impending psychological violence, like a beatdown at Call of Duty, being violated at Words With Friends, or being caught playing Magic: The Gathering. Pauses for a drum-only break @:49, returning to the vocal sample @1:01. Simple, tense tech-savvy toughness, good for intense competition, broadcasting egotistical bluster or suggesting growth/evolution.

Orchestral/Tech trailer bombast, tension and mystery, good for important discoveries, taking to the open seas, or having your salad tossed by Queen Elizabeth. Busy beds of dignified strings/marimbas start small then slowly add orchestral/electronic percussion, atmospheric vocals and booming, low brass to build in tenor and size from quiet conflict to majestic pride. @:30 the cut builds back from a bed of pulsing electronic percussion into an interwoven, complex bed of majesty and machinations.

A dramatic opening with percolating woodwinds, acoustic guitar, insistent drums and low brass pads sets the stage for the brass melody @:10, making it great for important events, big unveilings and hopeful sunrises. After a big climax @:49, enjoy the various loopable mix-outs, ranging from quiet and busy (@:50) to heartwarming (@1:00) to industrious and newsy (1:30). Four-on-the-floor, news-open-appropriate brass theme returns @1:50, this time slightly longer.

"In this frankly insane alternate take, the rhythm is augmented by voices chanting 'MAU MAU MAU,'" distorted in all sorts of disturbing ways. @:55 monsters rise from the underworld - to party! The creatures decide to beatbox @2:12, because everyone loves a beatboxing werewolf. Great for Halloween, or anything only mildly scary. This version has no strings or brass - there's no orchestra allowed in crazytown.

Angry, cinematic news intro. Big, pounding, stabbing cut that starts with a delayed bed of electric guitars, stomping feet and big drum hits that suggests impending chaos or an army of large-handed proctologists. The tension intensifies until a roll @:14 brings us to a hit-filled section (with orchestral percussion/string/brass hits) that gets bigger as it nears its climax @:29. The second half starts with a bed of choppy electric guitars and then builds back to the main, pounding "theme" @1:02 -- but this time, the cut’shuge, more aggressive and violent, like my first girlfriend, Tracee Gordon.

[CLASSIC BATTLE / CONFRONTATION] Soaring, epic, orchestral achievement through battle. Classic face-off music good for confrontations between armies, politicians, sports (especially football) teams or spouses. Builds straight to a climax @:30 after setting the stage for combat. Becomes more soul-stirring and inspiring, esp. @:54 and 1:16, when syncopated strings really help the piece take off. Grows in complexity and activity @1:04 when the piece is in full swing. If this piece doesn't make you want to go and heroically deliver a beatdown to all in your edit bay, nothing will.

Fun + danger. Like having sex with a clown in his car- and finding 34 of his friends in there as well. Deceptively light remixed attitudinal Rock that gets more serious. A rolling acoustic guitar and four-on-the-floor kick drum provides a thoughtful, slightly dramatic, news-like bed of movement. @:09 the cut grows in tenor with swelling electric guitars, acoustic/electronic suggesting growing tension until @:17 explosions of a guitar-amped brass melody suggest a dark celebration, sports, important decisions, chest-pounding image spots, slightly tense anticipation and having your spouse notice the greasepaint stains on your collar. A good time-passing bed @:32 starts with an electric bass and tambourine that slowly builds back up to the main mix.

Have a serious, important and intensely personal decision to make? Like a complex relationship, pulling the plug on a loved one (who might not even be attached to a respirator) or an uncomfortable 64th-term abortion? This slower, waltz-like intricate bed of movement starts as a modern classical stately and dignified canon, with repeating processed cello ostinatos/melody and synth bass/pads that suggest sadness and emotional weight. Acoustic drums and piano enter @:56 giving the cut an Alt/Indie or Post-Rock feel, with a simple distorted baritone sax @2:21, adding to the sense of gravity and loss. Good for PSAs, sad memories, intellectual conflicts and slowly walking off into the sunset.

A dramatic exploration of Jupiter's deadly magnetosphere. Starts with a reverbed hit and pad that slowly break up into glitchy radio chaos. @:14 the mood changes dramatically as an almost mechanical/hydraulic-sounding drum section starts spare, then after a hit @:25 the mood grows tense and suspenseful as more percussion and disorienting strings progressively enter and even-spaced dissonant string stabs start intensifying. @:38 the percussion calms to provide a bed of movement beneath a grand and proud string and horn theme @:48, as we view the colorful auroras of Jupiter's magnetic poles. But we get too close - and @1:30 a chaotic flurry of fluttering flutes and piccolos suggest confusion or danger as we plunge into a growing bed of percussion starting @1:36. Good for suspenseful dramas or beautiful, but dangerous, things.

[Full Orchestra, Snare Drums & Choir. Positive » Proud] Positive / resolute cut that uses full orchestra, choir and a battery of snares to suggest pride, strength and an uplifting resolution. The first half features more soft-spoken pride with woodwind / string iterations of the theme, building to 1:01, where a stronger, movement-filled, more testosterone-laden version features prominent brass and choir, building to an overwhelmingly positive Jerry Goldsmith-esque ending, starting @1:42. Great for political spots, Veteran’s Day or respectful remembrance.

The Chuck Norris of extreme sport Rock. Sharp-edged and aggressive cut that would body surf a tsunami or catch a bullet in its bellybutton (if it or Chuck Norris even needed one). Features uptempo, gritty electric bass, pounding acoustic drums, distorted guitars and avalanches of guitar noise. Filled with breaks and builds, this cut pares down the mix for the second half and explodes back into intense action @:59 with even more guitars and attitude. Good for rough sports, investigations and fast cutting.

[INTENSE BATTLE MUSIC] Great for combat of any kind: wartime, political or sports (e.g. it’s perfect for football). Towering brass and heavy snares instantly say clash of two mighty forces. Changes @:52 to faster feel – same tempo though – but with superfast trumpet figure ratcheting up the drama quotient considerably. Has suspensefully held note @1:25, before finishing itself off with a self-contained ending filled with brass and snares. Sounds like John Williams, James Horner, Howard Shore or James Newton Howard.

Softspoken, Indie Rock/Alt Folk feel-good cut uses mostly acoustic instrumentation and catchy vocal hook to suggest road trips, fun family vacations, romantic joy, being carefree and enjoying the beauty that nature has to offer, except some parts of New Jersey, where it looks like nature just gave the fuck up. Starts with optimistic, mid-tempo, intimate organic-feeling acoustic/electric guitars, acoustic kick drum and electric bass that are augmented by a playful male vocal @:20. (Note: the vocal is playful. The guy singing is a sandwich thief.) @:41 the cut gets a bit more propulsive with drums and a more determined feel, getting biggest @1:40, feeling celebratory and triumphant, but on a personal level.

Combine hopefulness, quiet courage and faith, and you have a Indie Pop/Cinematic theme song – at least until Hope, et al. ask for seventy revisions and end up using another composer at the last minute. Initially, spare, reverbed mechanical-sounding but pretty piano chords accentuate the feeling of Ambient isolation, but soon a fluid bed of pulsing kalimba and slow, scratching violin notes suggest bittersweet optimism and rebirth until @1:12 when the rhythmic elements practically disappear and the piece gets very small and intimate-feeling, slowly building up to a positive, feel-good, heartwarming triumphant with ostinato electric guitars and “breathing” string pads. Ends on a suspended chord, but includes a final, paste-able root-note @2:51. Good for PSAs, time-lapse of beautiful things growing/evolving, ecology and the sad day when our children grow and leave us, followed by the sadder day when they move back in.

Badass entrance music. Sultry, slow, seductive Blues/Soul-tinged, Brass-driven retro-modern Rock/Funk suggests steamy city streets, attitudinal strutting and my own failures to meet women, including never realizing that my local bar ("The Crowded Closet") was, in fact, a gay bar. Electric bass, electric piano, drums, spring-reverbed electric guitar and a R&B Brass section that practically drips coolness and attitude. Various sections, like the introspective-feeling solo piano break @2:06, provide alternate bravado-laden mixes, all starting small and getting more intolerably self-assured and confident, giving me the courage to try again at "Members Only," another bar in my neighborhood. Sounds fancy!

Beautiful and haunting woman's vocals grow into a proud, epic choral celebration. A solo woman's voice echoes over delayed cimbalom/electric guitar, string pads, and low synths, creating a questioning, almost lamenting feel, until a pounding build to :17 when a larger-than-life choir and orchestra enter, resulting in a positive, life-affirming wash of emotion. She's back @:31, returning to the neutral-to-mysterious feel - until the choir/orchestra and a battery of percussion returns @:58, letting us know that all will be well. Good for beating the odds, sports/Olympics, and re-affirming life. (Also: BG)

Positive/suspenseful mystery. Kind of like pondering the world's wonders or trying to figure out what a stranger's Chinese butt-crack-level tattoo means. From the ticking clock percussion and processed wailing woman's vocals, the cut has a mystic feel, even as batteries of hand- and orchestral percussion enter @:09 followed by waves of synths @:19. @:36 a plaintive electric guitar creates a sense of isolation and vastness, only to build into intense percussive activity @:57.
